Animal Farm by George OrwellMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
It is a classic, and it has been analyzed threadbare, so I doubt I can add anything substantial. Nevertheless, I am going to put a few words here. Animal Farm was an allegory to Russian Revolution, they say. Maybe. But it is more than that. It is the template of history unfolding. It is a statement which is corroborated by history time and again.
"Donkeys live a long time. None of you has ever seen a dead donkey."
It might have seemed cryptic to the animals, but it indeed is a simple sentence, isn't it? When I read this, I was laughing and savouring the beauty of it. If there was a donkey who knew what was to follow, it must have acquired the wisdom prior to the revolution. Wasn’t there an earlier revolution of the kind? Maybe, there have always been revolutions, and what invariably becomes of them!
